GRANTS: Romania Announces Production Grants

    BUCHAREST: The Romanian Film Centre (CNC) has distributed 5.6 m EUR / 27.9 m RON for the production of feature, documentary and animated films, as well as minority coproductions and debut features in the second batch of grants for 2023.

    Ten feature films, including three minority coproductions directed by Dragomir Sholev, Mina Đukić and Valeria Testagrossa, received production support.

    The biggest grant of 562,787 EUR / 2.8 m RON went to Red / Roșu by Liviu Săndulescu, followed by Indian Summer / Vară indiană by Cătălin Mitulescu (542,725 EUR / 2.7 m RON).

    CNC supported the production of three debut features and eight animated films as well.

    The production of 10 long and short documentaries was also supported, including a new project by Latvian director Viesturs Kairišs, Emptiness, which is a Romanian minority coproduction.

    Twelve short fiction films also received production grants, including a thematic short film, and five feature and one documentary films received script development support.
