FNE at the Slovak Film Week: Agave

    BRATISLAVA: Ondrej Šulaj’s Agave / Agáva will screen at the Slovak Film Week, a showcase of domestic production organised by the Slovak Film and Television Academy from 3 to 9 April 2017. Slovak Film and Television Academy (SFTA) nominated Agave for best costume design and best make-up at the Sun in a Net national awards, set to be announced on 7 April 2017 as part of the Slovak Film Week event.

    An acclaimed scriptwriter, best-known for his cooperations with director Martin Šulík, Ondrej Šulaj is adaptating in Agave the work of the Slovak writer Ladislav Ballek.

    The film is a psychological study of characters set in the hot, dry summer of 1947 and involving the old doctor Varga, the builder Hampel, his young wife Nadja, and the young teacher Daniel Orešanský. The film stars Slovak well-known theatre and film actors such as Milan Lasica, Milan Kňažko or Marek Geišberg.

    This 100% Slovak production was produced by TRIGON PRODUCTION in coproduction with RTVS. The budget of almost 1.2 m EUR was partially covered by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund and the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic.

    The film was released by Continental Film in March 2017. Continental Film is also handling the sales. Agave is currently in the majority coproductions domestic top ten admissions of 2016. Total admissions are 10,790 and the gross 52,215 EUR to date.

    The premiere of the film took place at the 29th Finále Plzeň FF in 2016.
