From the Nordic countries, we are happy to introduce The Fencer, a project by the award-winning Finnish director Klaus Härö,F***ing Swedes, by Ronnie Sandahl, one of Sweden’s most renowned young authors and produced by Cinenic Film and Anagram Produktion, and Vergo, the debut for Icelandic Ásthildur Kjartansdóttir. The slate is rounded out by The Journalist, a project from this year’s focus country Kazakhstan, an emerging film country with anorganized, high-quality industry, which has co-produced a number of European films in the recent years.

Baltic Bridge East by West (B’EST) is a training and promotion initiative designed for feature film projects from the European Union (represented in 2012 by projects from Finland, Germany, Austria/Luxembourg, France) and the CIS countries and Georgia (represented by Russia, Armenia, Latvia, and Georgia). The initiative was organized in cooperation with Eurasia Film Meetings (Russia) and EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs). The first B’EST workshop took place during the Moscow International Film Festival where 10 feature project were presented. Now these projects have made their way to Baltic Event. The line-up includes filmmakers like Georgian-born Bakur Bakuradze, whose first and second feature films were selected to the Cannes Film Festival, and Bair Dishenov, who won the Crystal Bear in Berlin for his debut short.

As always, the aim of Baltic Event is to give a comprehensive overview of the regional film industry by presenting feature film projects in all stages of development and production, and holding panels and roundtables on topics of interest to the local film industry.
