    For the second consecutive year, animation film professionals from Central and Eastern European countries – united under the CEE Animation brand – have accepted the generous offer of Creative Europe MEDIA to be part of their Umbrella Stand at MIFA in Annecy. Over 50 promising producers, talented animators or representatives of festivals, national film funds and other film institutions from 12 different countries will present their animation industries or production at MIFA.

    With almost 40 companies and more than 30 films and projects from the region present at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival this year, the animation industry from Central and Eastern Europe is making a powerful move to establish CEE Animation as a quality brand in the world of animation, which is strongly rooted in the past and has great ambitions to grow in the future.

    The Official Festival Selection will feature 9 short films in competition (Acid Rain, d. Tomasz Popakul; Deep Love, d. Nykyta Lyskov; A Demonstration of Brilliance in Four Acts, d. Lucija Mrzljak; The Juggler, d. Skirmanta Jakaite; Life24, d. Kristjan Holm; Rain, d. Piotr Milczarek; Story, d. Jolanta Bankowska; Symbiosis, d. Nadja Andrasev; Toomas Beneath the Valley of the Wild Wolves, d. Chintis Lundgren), 3 short films in the Perspectives section (From Under Which Rock Did They Crawl Out, d. Daniel Suljic; Imbued Life, d. Ivana Bosnjak; Winter in the Rainforest, d. Anu-Laura Tuttelberg), 1 short film in the Young Audiences section (The Kite, d. Martin Smatana), and 11 short Graduation Films (The Act of Breathing d. Yamazaki Hana; Apart, d. Diana Cam Van Nguyen; Daughter, d. Daria Kashcheeva; Entropia, d. Flora Anna Buda; Food Chain, d. Mari Kivi, Liis Kokk; The Little Soul, d. Barbara Rupik; Ovule, d. Natalia Durszewicz; Poetika Anima, d. Kriss Sagan; Sounds Good, d. Sander Joon; Sweet Sweat, d. Jung Hyun Kim; You Are Overreacting, d. Karina Paciorkowska).

    We will also follow the competition of Commissioned films represented by Animafest Zagreb 2018 Official Trailer, Balkanima 2018 “Hypno Swarm”, OIAF 2018 “Signal Film” or Tricky Women / Tricky Realities 2019. The Feature films section will feature Away by Gints Zilbalodis (Contrechamp category) and Marona’s Fantastic Tale by Anca Damian. Visitors should not miss the very popular Work in Progress with two CEE representatives: Even Mice Belong in Heaven by Denisa Grimmova and Jan Bubenicek and Dislocation (WIP XR) by Milivoj Popovic and Veljko Popovic. The organizers of MIFA 2019 have provided an opportunity to meet producers, and the Czech-French coproduction film My Sunny Maad by Michaela Pavlatova will be introduced within the GAP Financing event. For the upcoming MIFA Short Film Pitches, two Hungarian projects were selected: Dino Doom on Desert Planet by Zsuzsanna Kreif and Hide by Daniel Benjamin Gray.
