WHEN EAST MEETS WEST opens call for its new special hybrid Co-Production Forum!

The last months have seen a drastic change of the world as we knew it. We all had to quickly and instinctively adapt to radically new circumstances. The next edition of WEMW will reflect this new reality with a brand new format, while keeping an eye on the usual care for our guests. Our main goal is to build a safe professional environment and to offer both an on-site & online program in order to meet the needs of all participants. It will be a unique edition and we are ready to face this new challenge. The on-site version will be held in Trieste between 24 and 26 January 2021 and will include a combination of physical and digital initiatives; it will be followed on 27 and 28 January by a series of online one-to-one meetings.

The heart of the event will still be the Co-Production Forum dedicated to documentaries and feature films in development from all over Europe, but the program will feature many other activities. Furthermore, this new edition of WEMW will continue researching and giving insights into the specific realities of the East and West, bringing to Trieste a selection of projects in different phases and a delegation of the main key players from the 2021 countries in focus: Italy and Israel.

Two Key Words: Curation & Inspiration

The WEMW 2021 format will keep the same successful ingredients as in previous years, enriched with some important new elements. Due to the inevitable reduced location capacity, every professional joining this upcoming edition in Trieste will have a special and transversal role during the event.

On the one hand, we will accompany for the first time the selected projects before, during and after the event, organising curated one-to-one meetings with a number of business angels from all over Europe, handpicked for each project in cooperation with EAVE. Selected teams will have the unique opportunity to receive advice on co-production, finance, marketing or distribution, according to the primary needs of their project. On the other hand, we will arrange the usual individual meetings on the spot with attending decision makers and a series of online one-to-one meetings with all other registered professionals. WEMW 2021 will furthermore create a space for open dialogue to reshape the present of our industry and find new inspirations for the future.

WEMW Co-Production Forum: call for entries is now open!

    DEADLINE:  October 31, 2020

Starting from today, producers from Europe*, Israel, North & South America are eligible to apply with long feature fiction films or documentaries. WEMW Scouting Days

Opportunities to meet professionals face to face during the past months have been rare, but we still want to know you and your stories better. This is why we have decided to launch the WEMW Scouting Days: starting from the next week and until the end of October you will have the possibility to request individual meetings every Monday and Tuesday with the WEMW team to discuss projects, share ideas or doubts or get more information about the co-production forum and the submission process. To schedule the most suitable slot please feel free to contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

WEMW 2021 will offer a rich and lively program including pitching sessions, works in progress, labs and a variety of panels and round table discussions. More news about the event and info on how to possibly participate will be announced soon, so stay tuned!

We are looking forward to meeting and e-meeting you in Trieste!
