WEMW thinks ahead and goes to Russia!

WEMW and ROSKINO launch within KEY BUYERS EVENT a new programme for international projects looking for Russian minority co-production.

After the very successful ‘out of the box’ edition, WHEN EAST MEETS WEST is moving the first steps towards the 2022 edition and for the first time it will dedicate a special focus on Russia!

Thanks to the partnership with ROSKINO, a state body representing the Russian industry of audiovisual content in the international markets, the next edition of WEMW will offer a wide overview of Russian projects and talents, as well as the funding measures recently adopted by Russia to boost international co-productions.

The first step of this focus dedicated to the Russian landscape will start already this year as WEMW and ROSKINO are joining forces for the upcoming edition of KEY BUYERS EVENT (KBE) by organizing WEMW Goes to Russia, a tailor-made event exclusively dedicated to the large WEMW network of international film professionals and partners.

KBE, the leading Russian Content Market, will take place in June 8-10, 2021 and for the first time it will include a specific section entirely dedicated to co-production opportunities with Russia. Thanks to the recent launch of a minority co-production funding scheme, Russia is now becoming a very attractive place to discover new accessible financing sources and reliable co-production partners for international feature films.

WEMW Goes to Russia will feature a pitching session of 5 international projects in advanced development stage looking for gap-financing. Selected teams will have the unique chance to meet all leading Russian producers, find the possible right partners and access a minority co-production support of up to RUB 10 million (about 110.000 EUR) granted by the Russian Ministry of Culture.

International producers* are now able to submit their fiction project to the section WEMW Goes to Russia at the following LINK. The deadline for submissions is May 7, 2021 and the final selection will be done by WEMW in collaboration with ROSKINO, and announced by mid-May.

The programme of WEMW Goes to Russia will also feature a series of other initiatives tackling the new co-production opportunities offered by the Russian film industry: from panel sessions dedicated to the domestic funding landscape to bilateral networking events between Russian and international producers. WEMW will coordinate all relevant steps of the presence of all international delegates attending KBE by shaping the content of the sessions and inviting all producers who are already part of the WEMW network to join the event in early June.

WEMW Goes to Russia will give a taste of the future 2022 focus and will be the perfect moment to start promoting Russia’s new international co-production strategy.
