FIPRESCI: Geogian Film Critics and Scholars Association

    The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI, short for Fédération Internationale de la Presse Cinématographique) is an association of national organizations of professional film critics and film journalists from around the world for “the promotion and development of film culture and for the safeguarding of professional interests.” It was founded in June 1930 in Brussels, Belgium. At present, it has members in more than 50 countries worldwide. The organization distributes its established prizes to up to eighty film festivals around the world. Among them are Berlin, Cannes, Rotterdam, Vienna, Toronto, Venice, Warsaw, San Sebastian, and Montreal film festivals. As of 2005, it also offers an online cinema journal, Undercurrents.

    For the first time in the history of the organization, Georgian Film Critics and Scholars Association (GFCASA) became a member of it. The purpose of the organization is to promote the development of professional film criticism, film science and film journalism, to popularize Georgian cinema and the researchers carried out on it, to host conferences, meetings and other international and local events, as well as to participate in professional events held abroad, as well as to present its own jury candidates at various film festivals within the framework of FIPRESCI and etc.
