    WEMW 2026 takes place from 18 to 20 January 2026 in Trieste (Italy) and offers a myriad of activities during its intense 3-day programme. Let's take a closer look at the two sections dedicated to works in progress.

    LAST STOP TRIESTE

    —deadline: November 5

    Last Stop Trieste, now in its 12th edition, is a work in progress section for documentary projects in a stage of fine-cut, previously developed or presented in one of our partners platform: Ex-Oriente Film Workshop, BDC Discoveries, Docu Rough Cut Boutique, Baltic Sea Docs, ZagrebDox PRO and When East Meets West.

    Selected documentary fine cuts will be given the chance to be screened in Trieste to an exclusive platform of international sales agents, festival programmers and TV commissioning editors with the aim of enhancing their potential for finding festival premiere, sales agents and broadcasting slots. Along with a short presentation and the screening of the prepared selection of scenes from their fine cuts, all selected teams will participate at the moderated feedback session with hand-picked decision makers attending physically Last Stop Trieste. 


    All selected docs will be in the running for the HBO Europe Award, a cash prize of the value of € 1,000. 

    ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

    __LST has interest in supporting creative documentary projects that have a final duration between 60 minutes and feature length, done with a strong cinematic language and artistic imprint of the director

    __Projects should be new or recent and there should be a potential international market
    __No specific themes or styles are preferred
    __There are no other specific fixed criteria and each individual project will be considered on its own merits

    THIS IS IT

    —deadline: November 5

    This Is IT is a work in progress section exclusively dedicated to long feature films and hybrid works with a strong visual and artistic approach produced or co-produced by Italian producers or coming from any of the East & West 2026 spotlight territories: Baltic Countries &, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

    The selected teams will have the chance to present their works and screen 8′ of their films to an exclusive panel of international sales agents, festival programmers and buyers.

    All selected films will compete for the Laser Film Award, consisting in 4 days of colour grading services and 1 DCP for a total value of € 10,000. 

    ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

    __This Is IT has interest in supporting long feature films and hybrid works with a strong cinematic language and artistic imprint of the director

    __Projects should be new or recent, there should be a potential international market and should be feature films with theatrical potential (minimum length of 70 minutes)
    __The submitted project can be in different stages of post-production, though highly recommended to be in its early editing phase and still looking for international distribution and festival premiere

    __No specific themes or styles are preferred

    __There are no other specific fixed criteria and each individual project will be considered on its own merits
