BRATISLAVA: Slovak novelist/scriptwriter Vito Staviarsky along with his sons, director Richard Staviarsky and editor Juraj Staviarsky, and daughter, producer Marka Staviarska, are in post-production with their first feature film Loli Paradicka, produced by their family company Staviarsky and coproduced by the Slovak Radio and TV.

ZAGREB: The Zagreb Film Festival, running 11-18 November, will screen Croatian writer/director Bobo Jelčić’s drama All Alone.

ZAGREB: Animafest Zagreb is accepting applications from short and feature length animated films for its 29th edition, running 3-8 June 2019.

Georgia’s Vova Katcharava of 20 Steps Productions joins Bankside Films and Film and Music Entertainment at the American Film Market to announce first pre-sales and new title of How To Sell a War, produced by Mike Downey and Sam Taylor. Renamed How To Fake  a War stars Jay  Pharaoh, Katherine Parkinson and Lily Newmark. First pre-sales to China, Middle East and Switzerland and will screen the very first moving images from the film on the teaser/trailer at the American Film Market from today.

BRATISLAVA: Slovak director/writer/producer Marko Škop is in post-production with his second feature film Let There be Light / Nech je svetlo.

RIGA: Latvian production companies have a bonanza of films in post-production or completed and awaiting release. They include two animated films, both for children and family audiences.

The Czech documentary When the War Comes by Jan Gebert won the Silver Eye Award at the Jihlava IDFF.

WEMW Coproduction Forum
DEADLINE: November 7, 2018

As a result of the strong interest in the co-production forum, the deadline has been extended to November 7 to allow as many producers as possible to submit their project.

The upcoming edition of WEMW (January 20-22, 2019) will launch a new East & West double focus and will bring together over 450 film professionals from more than 35 countries and, in particular, from the 2019 spotlight regionsCentral Eastern Europe (Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine) and Benelux (Belgium, Luxembourg, The Netherlands).
Producers from Europe* and North/Latin America are eligible to apply and WEMW will select 20 projects in development with international co-production potential, preferably either with Central Eastern Europe, Benelux or Italy. Projects can be long feature fiction films or documentaries, with preferably 15% of the total budget already in place.
Selected projects will be announced in mid-December and all selected producers will be offered free WEMW Industry accreditation.

All selected projects will compete for the following awards:

  • Film Center Serbia Development Award - cash prize
  • EAVE scholarship - for the EAVE European Producers Workshop
  • Flow Postproduction Award - 15.000 EUR prize in post-production facilities
  • EWA Network Best Woman Director Award - cash prize for the best female director
  • Producers Network Prize - free accreditation to the Cannes Marche du Film Producer’s Network
  • Asterisk Visual Marketing Award - complete package including the prelaunch poster and dossier design, as well as content and text curation provided by Heretic Asterisk
  • Pop Up Film Residence Award - A 3-week residency with the guidance of international mentors
