SKOPJE: The British distributor Videoplugger has sold the Macedonian live-action kids’ series Zoki Poki to Swedish broadcaster SVT and its Norwegian counterpart NRK.

SKOPJE: The Academy Award nominee Milcho Manchevski is developing his seventh feature film Kaymak / Kajmak. Early stages of casting are underway and principle photography is planned for the summer of 2021.

SKOPJE: Macedonian cinema admissions decreased by 77% in 2020 compared to 2019 when admissions were at the highest point ever. In 2019 the admissions rose to 0.5 m which was an increase of 25% compared to 0.4 m admissions in 2018.

SKOPJE: It was a challenging year for the industry in North Macedonia, as everywhere. Filming became complicated, cinemas went dark, festivals were moved and canceled.

SKOPJE: FNE spoke with the new Managing Director of the North Macedonia Film Agency on his appointment and his priorities for the Macedonian film industry.

SKOPJE: Films from Cyprus, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro have received South Eastern Europe Cinema Network (SEE Cinema Network) grants for development of feature-length projects. Each project will receive 9,000 EUR.

SKOPJE: Academy Award nominee Milcho Manchevski’s Willow / Vrba will be released by Kino Lorber in the USA in the spring of 2021. The US cinema release of the film will be followed by a VOD release on Kino Now and home video.

SKOPJE: The Macedonian Government named Bojan Lazarevski acting director of the North Macedonia Film Agency at its 15 December 2020 session. He is replacing Gorjan Tozija, whose second mandate expired on 4 August 2020.

SKOPJE: The Government of North Macedonia approved financial support for film workers affected by COVID-19 at its 11 December 2020 session. The new package of measures includes 24,948,000 MKD / 404,529 EUR for artists and film workers, among others.
