SKOPJE: The outdoor cinema season in North Macedonia will kick off on 31 May 2023 with the reopening of the open-air cinema of the Cinematheque of North Macedonia. Bringing a mix of classics, European titles, blockbusters and family-friendly films, there’ll be something for everyone.

SKOPJE: General admissions soared from 141,767 in 2021 to 253,521 in 2022, and the total gross rose from 453,978 EUR / 28 m MKD in 2021 to 750,931 EUR / 46 m MKD, according to the official statistics issued by the North Macedonia Film Agency in May 2023.

SKOPJE: Simeon Moni Damevski has received a new two-year mandate as the director of the International Cinematographers Film Festival Manaki Brothers.

SKOPJE: Pyramide Films has scored multiple sales for Teona Mitevska’s The Happiest Man in the World / Najsrekniotčoveknasvetot. The film, which premiered in the Orizzonti section of the 79th Venice International Film Festival, has already been sold to more than 10 countries.

SKOPJE: A total of 13 Macedonian films shot in 2022 will be screened at the 5th edition of Golden Frame, which will be held 20-22 April 2023 in two locations in Skopje.

SKOPJE: Milcho Manchevski seventh feature film Kaymak has racked up its first international deals. Level K is handling the sales of this Macedonian/Danish/Dutch/Croatian coproduction.

SKOPJE: The new streaming service Kinemoe, which has been launched in North Macedonia recently, is focused on promotion and streaming of locally produced content, and it is available direct-to-consumer.

SKOPJE: The Las Vegas-based sales company OneTwoThree Media will manage worldwide rights to Macedonian director Kristijan Risteski’s debut feature Snow White Dies in the End / Snezana umira na krajot, starring Verica Nedeska and Nataša Petrović. This Macedonian/Cypriot coproduction, involving North Macedonia’s Vertigo Visual and Cypriot Caretta Films, premiered at the 2022 Slamdance Film Festival.

SKOPJE: The Happiest Man in the World / Najsrekniot čovek na svetot by Teona Mitevska will be released by Obala Art Center in Bosnian cinemas on 9 March 2023. The film already hit the French cinemas on 22 February 2023 (Pyramide) and it has secured distribution in Sweden starting 31 March 2023 (Folkets Bio).

SKOPJE: Las Vegas-based sales company OneTwoThree Media has acquired international sales rights to coming-of-age fantasy drama M and will launch sales at the European Film Market (16 – 22 February 2023) in Berlin. M is a coproduction between North Macedonia, Croatia, Kosovo, France and Luxembourg.
