FNE at Connecting Cottbus: Sugar Kid

    COTTBUS: The first animated children’s film to be pitched at Connecting Cottbus is a coproduction from Macedonia, Serbia and Bulgaria.

    The 3 m EUR production directed by Igor Ivanov is a period fairy tale set in the early 20th century about a childless couple who own a candy shop and create a child from sugar. The Sugar Kid becomes the center of unrest in the small town, and escapes to the forest where his adventures turn him into a local hero. The film will combine live action set and characters combined with the animation of the Sugar Kid and will include songs sung by the characters.

    The family film has a prime target audience of 5-9 year olds.

    The Macedonian Film Agency has contributed 750,000 EUR and the film has in-kind set construction valued at 200,000 EUR, with producers contributing 50,000 EUR of the funding. The producers are Sektor Film, Serbia’s Art & Popcorn, and Bulgaria’s Audiovideo Orpheus. Producers are applying for national funding in Serbia and Bulgaria.

    The production is looking for coproducers, post-production support, world sales and TV broadcasters.
