FilmFestival Cottbus 2026 to Focus on Latvian and Montenegrin Contemporary Cinema

By

COTTBUS: Fourteen Latvian films and a Montenegrin programme comprising three feature films and five short films will screen at the 36th FilmFestival Cottbus (3 – 8 November 2026) in the programmes Close-Up: Latvia and View from the Black Mountain: Montenegro Special.

Following Estonia in 2025, FilmFestival Cottbus continues its journey through the Baltic States. Close-Up: Latvia demonstrates the many ways in which contemporary Latvian cinema engages with history and the present: from large-scale films for broad audiences to crime stories, animation and arthouse cinema, ranging from playful and idiosyncratic approaches to powerful explorations of historical subjects.

View from the Black Mountain: Montenegro Special introduces a national cinema that has become increasingly professional and internationally connected in the 20 years since Montenegro gained independence. Montenegro is also represented in the Feature Film Competition of FilmFestival Cottbus with Black Trumpet / Crna truba directed by Bojan Stijović (produced by Montenegro’s Cut-Up d.o.o. and coproduced by Serbia’s Pelicula Production).

The complete programme of the 36th FilmFestival Cottbus will be published on 15 October 2026.
