NICOSIA: Producer Stavros Papageorghiou and director Yeliz Shukri, who worked together on the documentary Missing Fetine (Tetraktys Films Ltd), plan to start a mobile cinema and have it travel across the entire island of Cyprus. They plan to screen documentaries and fiction films by Cypriot filmmakers.

The project Cyprus Nomad Cinema for Peace and Coexistence is planned to kick off in Poli Chysochous at the end of 2016 and to travel through Paphos all the way to Karpasia.

Each screening will be followed by discussions between filmmakers, crew and audience. Speaking to FNE about the project, Stavros Papageorghiou said: “We strongly believe that this innovating process of audio-visual communication will help Cypriots from both communities to foster bi-communal understanding, but moreover a vision for team working, joint creative collaborations.”

The two filmmakers have submitted a proposal to the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation Bi-communal Awards 2016. They hope to receive the award amounting 10,000 EUR in order to finance their project. Some organisations have already shown interest in supporting their efforts.
