Czech Domestic Production Reaches Record High

By

PRAGUE: Revenues for domestic film and TV production for members of the Audiovisual Producers´ Association (APA) reached a record high in 2016 of 921m CZK in turnover, which is the highest amount since 2002. The amount was only slightly more than the 852m total for 2015.

An important source of growth is independent productions for pubcaster CTV, which grew by 8% last year to a total of 37% of the broadcaster’s production output.

Revenues from advertising production dropped by 6.9 m EUR, while the commissioned productions revenues decreased by 9 m EUR.

The drop in the advertising production revenues according to APA was mainly caused by the new amendment to the Road Act, which extended the length of time needed for obtaining permits for location blocking. Since January 2016 this has dramatically reduced flexibility for foreign location shoots causing Czech producers to lose a fifth of the orders.
