FNE at Baltic Event 2013: CoProduction Market Awards Announced

    TALLINN: The Baltic Event has announced the winning projects of its annual coproduction market (26-29 November) with the award for best project going to Romanian project Miracle in Cluj represented by producer Melinda Boros and director Botond Püsök of Romania’s Spotfilm.

    Awards also went to producers from Lithuania, Denmark and Finland. Altogether five awards were handed out including the first ever Clear Light Award for 5400 EUR.

    More than 300 film professionals from 30 countries attended the event held 26-29 November in Tallinn which was the largest in its 12 year history. The event also attracted many sales agents including representatives from Reel Suspects, Fandango, TrurstNordisk, Urban Distribution International, Aktis Film International, Fortissimo and Film Republic.

    One of the highlights of the event was the gala opening dinner attended by all guests and sponsored by the Baltic Event, the Finnish Film Foundation and Film New Europe. FNE director Anna Franklin took the opportunity to thank not only the Baltic Event but also all the partners and supporters of Film New Europe.

    As the Best Project Miracle in Cluj received 5000 EUR worth of post-production services granted by the Estonian Digital Centre. The Best Pitch Award went to Lithuanian producer Uljana Kim, whose project Seneca's Day will be produced by Studio Uljana Kim and directed by acclaimed director Kristijonas Vildžiūnas, is expected to the first ever coproduction between all three Baltic countries. Seneca’s Day which is budgeted at 1.48m EUR has already received development support from Lithuanian Film Centre and MEDIA.

    Awards for most promising young producers went to Danish participant Mille Haynes, representing the project Say Something, Pierrot!, and Lithuanian producer Lukas Trimonis, the producer of Miracle. Both producers will receive a free accreditation to Cannes Marché du film Producers' Network for their 2014 edition.

    The award of 5400 Euros worth of lighting services by the Estonian company Digital Sputnik went to Making Movies Oy producers Kaarle Aho and Kai Nordberg and Finnish director Jussi Hiltunen with their Lapland western Law of the Land.
