Five Latvian Feature Films to be Released in 2015

    RIGA: Five Latvian features, including Laila Pakalnina's Dawn, are expected to be released in 2015.

    A total of 47 Latvian films are set to have their premiere in 2015 with 42 of them supported by the Latvian National Film Centre, Dita Rietuma, head of the Centre told the LETA press agency.

    Five of them are feature films, four short feature films, 27 documentaries and 11 animated films. Laila Pakalnina's Dawn, set in the Soviet era, is a Latvian/Polish coproduction between Latvia’s Hargla and Poland’s Staron-Film, Miracle Worker (PL) and Digitaalne Sputnik from Estonia. Viesturs Kairiss's Chronicles of Melanie, produced by Latvia’s Mistrus Media, coproduced by Inland Film Company from Finland and set during the Stalinist period, will open in fall 2015.

    Another feature expected in 2015 is Davis Simanis's My Peaceful Place of Exile, produced by Latvia’s Locomotive Productions, coproduced by Lithuania’s Studio Uljana Kim and starring the German actor Ulrich Matthes.
