Hartley-Merrill winning project starts shooting

    Polish documentary director Maciej Adamiak began shooting his first feature, the winner of the Hartley-Merrill scriptwriting prize The Picture on August 12.
    Adamiak wrote the script, the story of a rebellious adolescent boy who questions the identity of his father when he sees a picture of his pregnant mother accompanied by a stranger.

    The film is produced by Radek Stys and his studio Koncept Media. Co-producers are Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing (www.wajdaschool.pl) and Mastershot (www.masteshot.pl). The Polish website www.stopklatka.pl reports that German and Hungarian producers are also involved in the project. The movie's total budget is PLN2,418,000 (730,000 Euros) with a significant input from the Polish Film Institite (www.pisf.pl) which supported this picture with 410,000 Euros for production and 18,000 Euros for development (www.bazafilmowa.pl).

    Filming will take place in Poland and Slovakia, ending September 18, with post-production through April 2009.
