Germany is represented in the main competition by the actress Diane Kruger appearing in David Cronenberg's The Shrouds and actor Franz Rogowski in Bird by Andrea Arnold.

German minority coproductions Motel Destino by Karim Aïnouz and Grand Tour by Miguel Gomes will also vie for the Palm d’Or in the Competition.

Another four German minority coproductions have been selected for the Un Certain Regard section, one minority coproduction will screen Out of Competition, and one German minority coproduction in Semaine de la Critique.

German majority coproductions Our Own Shadow by Agustina Sánchez Gavier and Immaculata by Kim Lêa Sakkal have been selected for the Quinzaine des Cinéastes sidebar section together with German minority coproduction To a Land Unknown directed by Mahdi Fleifel.
