PRODUCTION: Emmy Winner Nanau Prepares New Documentary

    BUCHAREST: Alexander Nanau, recipient of the International Emmy 2010 for The World According to Ion B, is preparing a new full length documentary, 136, which will be produced by Strada Film (www.stradafilm.ro).

    136 (working title) is now in the research stage and will be shot in February-March 2011. The story about a school in the Bucharest ghetto will stress the friendship between two children. They come from disintegrated families, but the only Roma teacher at the school is helping them grow.

     

    The producer is pitching to co-producers while applying for a production grant at the upcoming session of the National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro). The film has also applied for support at Tribeca (www.tribecafilm.com/festival/) and Sundance (www.sundance.org/festival). The budget is 140,000 euro.

    The film is produced by Strada Film in partnership with the Policy Center for Roma Minorities (www.policycenter.eu) of the European Commission (http://ec.europa.eu), which granted the project through the program Pan European Coordination of Roma Integration Methods - Information and Awareness Raising - Come with us and be the change.

    The premiere is tentatively set for 2012.
