Compote Collective (Bulgaria), Sofia Animation LAB, and SAQANIMA – Georgian Animation Association, in collaboration and with the support by France The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and Institut français as part of the strategy for the export of Cultural and Creative Industries, French Institute in Bulgaria and the Annecy International Animation Film Festival Market (MIFA), announced an open call in August 2025 for short animated film projects to participate in the workshop.

NICOSIA: The pilot episode of the mythology-inspired TV series My Aphrodite will start shooting during the Limassol Carnival (12 – 22 February 2026).

The Astra Film Festival, Romania’s International Documentary Film Festival, has opened submissions for this year’s edition. Filmmakers from around the world are invited to submit their works by March 10, 2026, to compete in one of the festival’s four competitive sections: New Voices, Eastern Europe, Romania, and DocSchool. ZAGREB: The Croatian/Serbian comedy The Wedding / Svadba directed by Igor Šeregi gathered 374,213 admissions in its first 12 days of release, becoming the most-watched Croatian film in history, and the second most-watched film in Croatian cinemas, after James Cameron’s Titanic (1997).

BUDAPEST: The new English language film by Hungarian helmer Kornel Mundruczó, At the Sea, was acquired by Paris-based MK2 Films ahead of its world premiere in the main competition of the 76th Berlin International Film Festival (12 – 22 February 2026). The film’s U.S. rights are represented by WME Independent.

PRAGUE: Emerging European talents with animated short projects are invited to apply to Rise & Shine, the animation development and pitching lab organised by Animafest Zagreb in collaboration with Animateka International Animated Film Festival and CEE Animation.
