IPTV competition heats up in Czech Republic

By

Volny (http://web.volny.cz ), a telecommunications company in the Czech Republic, has announced the launch of its new IPTV service. Titled Volny TV, the service offers 40 foreign and national stations as well as film channels.

Prior to the launch, the rival Telefonica O2 (cz.o2.com) announced that it has signed up 40,000 Czech Republic subscribers for its IPTV service, titled O2 TV. As of March, there were 690,000 cable subscribers nationwide, so the popularity of IPTV is catching on.

Previously, Telefonica O2 was largely unchallenged, but now competition between the service and the new Volny TV will play out.
