Son of Saul Wins Oscar and Spirit Award for Best Foreign Language Film

    BUDAPEST: Son of Saul won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film at the gala held at Dolby Theatre, Hollywood on 28 February 2016. The debut feature of László Nemes also won Best Foreign Film at Spirit Awards on 27 February 2016.

    Son of Saul (produced by Laokoon Filmgroup) was nominated alongside Mustang (France) by Deniz Gamze Ergüven, Theeb (Jordan) by Naji Abu Nowar, Embrace the Serpent (Colombia) by Ciro Guerra and A War (Denmark) by Tobias Lindholm.

    Son of Saul was also the first Hungarian film to win the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on 11 January 2016. The film launched its international career in Cannes 2015 where it won Grand Prix du Jury and the FIPRESCI Award.

    Mustang is a French / Turkish / German coproduction between CG Cinema, Vistamar Filmproduktion, Uhland Film, BAM Film and Kinology production.
