FESTIVALS: Lithuania Fest Launches Baltic Program

By

VILNUS: The Vilnius IFF, moving to boost its focus on local work, has announced a new competition program for 2014, Baltic Gaze, which will screen films created in the Baltic Sea region, organizers said Wednesday.

The fest’s artistic team is seeking feature and documentaries over 60 minutes that have never before screened in public in Lithuania. An international jury will name the film each year, giving its creators a monetary prize.

The action follows up on the 2009 launch at Vilnius IFF of the New Europe - New Names program, in which an international jury credits talent among debuting Central/Eastern European filmmakers, now a regular feature. The 19th Vilnius fest runs 21 March 21 – 3 April.

Films that have premiered in the previous year remain eligible for Baltic Gaze. For 2014 competition films, premieres after January 1st 2013 will be considered. Eligible work could come from ten countries - Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia and Sweden.
