    CANNES: One of the EU’s most successful script programmes ScripTeast has awarded its prestigious Krzysztof Kieślowski ScripTeast Award for the Best Eastern European Script to Nanook by Bulgarian scriptwriters Milko Lazarov and Simeon Ventsislavov. Special mention went to Polish scriptwriter Bodo Kox for his The Man with the Magic Box.

    Nanook is about a young Inuit woman, Aga, who, after years living in Denmark, is called home to Greenland to deal with her mother’s illness. Her parents, SEDNA and NANOOK, are traditionalists, living off of the land, struggling against the changes brought by “civilization”. AGA tries to convince her mother to return with her to Copenhagen, but comes into conflict with her stubborn father, who clings to his ancient way of life.

    The winner of the prestigious Krzysztof Kieslowski ScripTeast Award for the Best Eastern and Central European Script was presented during a ceremony at the Producers Club in Cannes on 19 May by Independent Film Foundation helmer Darisuz Jablonski. The selection was made by the Advisory Board members, and Heads of Studies, Tom Abrams and Christian Routh.

    The writers of the winning screenplay writers also receive a prize of 10 000 Euros to be spent on further work on the project and a statuette designed by Adam Fedorowicz.  

    ScripTeast, which works with scriptwriters from across the CEE region. This year’s projects include three from Poland, two from the Czech Republic and two from Romania, along with projects from Slovakia, Estonia, Bulgaria and Hungary. Backed by the EU’s Creative Europe MEDIA programme as well as the Polish Film Institute ScripTeast is one of the EU’s most successful script development and training projects with 16 films produced from its eight workshops. It is organized by the Independent Film Foundation in Poland.

    ScripTeast is organized by the Independent Film Foundation and supported by Media Program of EU, Polish Film Institute, National Centre for Culture, and Apple Film Production, in cooperation with the European Film Academy, the ACE Program, Producers Network and Film New Europe.
