FNE at Cannes IFF 2012: Cannes prize winners

    CANNES: Director Michal Haneke's Amour won the top prize, the Palme d'Or, at this year 65th Cannes Film Festival making the Austrian director only the second director in history to win the top prize twice. Haneke also won the Palme D'Or for his film The White Ribbon in 2009

    Films from central Europe also scored wins with Romanian director Cristian Mungiu's critically much admired Beyond the Hills winning the main prize for Best Sreenplay and Best Actress Aaards for Cristina Flutur and Cosmina Stratan.

    Elsewhere Bulgarian director Ilian Metev competing in the Critics' Week won the France 4 Visionary Award for his documentary film Sofia's Last Ambulance. FIPRESCI awarded its prize for the best film in the main competition to Sergei Loznitsa's In the Fog, produced as a coproduction with Rija Films (www.rijafilms.lv of Latvia).
