    COTTBUS: Juraj Lerotić’s debut feature Safe Place, a coproduction between Croatia and Slovenia, was awarded Best Film in the Feature Film Competition of the 32nd edition of FilmFestival Cottbus (8 – 13 November 2022).

    Damian Kocur won Best Director in the same competition for his Polish film Bread and Salt, while Iulian Postelnicu won the Outstanding Individual Performance Award for the Romanian/Bulgarian coproduction Men of Deeds directed by Paul Negoescu.

    A total of 219 films from 48 countries screened in the festival which is one of the world's leading forums for Eastern European cinema.

    This year the festival focused on Romania and launched a new section EcoEast with films on ecological themes and sustainability.
