BUCHAREST: Romanian producer and distributor Matei Dima carries the day as his new project Buzz House: The Movie directed by Florin Babei sets an opening record in Romania with 249,105 admissions and 1.49 m EUR / 7,211,155 RON gross.

The film released on 26 April 2024 tops the weekly charts and lands third in the general box office, after Dune: Part Two and another domestic hit, Part-time Daddy / Tati part-time by Letiția Roșculeț, according to Cinemagia.

It has not only been the best opening for a domestic film in 2024, ahead of Part-time Daddy, which had 144,754 admissions and 848,900 EUR / 4,224,699 RON gross over its first week (5 – 12 January 2024), but it has been the best opening for a domestic film after 1990.

And just like Part-time Daddy, Buzz House: The Movie is again produced and distributed by Matei Dima through Vidra Productions, the company behind three of the four domestic titles which secured a place in the 2023 general Top Ten.

The catch of Buzz House: The Movie consists of using some of the most famous Romanian influencers, alongside well-known actors, in a story that wants to be funny (they are preparing to shoot a show) till it turns into a survival story.

The cast includes Selly, Iorga, Erika Isac, Drăcea, Adrian Elicopter de Luptă, Costi Max, Cezara Cristescu, Tania Popa and Gabriel Spahiu, among others.

Buzz House: The Movie is the tenth project of Vidra Productions and it may well surpass the success of Miami Bici 2 directed by Jesús del Cerro and produced by WatchMe Productions and Vidra Productions, and released by Vertical Entertainment. Miami Bici 2 was the most watched film in Romanian cinemas in 2023 with 2,542,016 admissions and 2.87 m EUR / 14,317,977 RON gross, but it had lesser results than Buzz House: The Movie over its first week (198,324 admissions and 1.06 m EUR / 5,281,140 RON gross).
