Award-winning documentary director Thomas Ciulei is working on his feature debut, a comedy about an actor and a filmmaker, the last artists from an imaginary country ruled by an ominous dictator.
The Show Must Go On (working title) won a grant of €325,847 from National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro) last year, which covers over half of the €600,000 budget.
Ciulei is producing with his Romanian company Europolis Film (site under construction) and also wrote the script. Negotiations with foreign co-producers are underway. It is possible that the feature could be a Romanian-German co-production, Ciulei told FNE.
Filming will take place no sooner than 2010, with the premiere in 2011.
The last documentary of Ciulei, the awarded The Flower Bridge (Podul de flori) was recently bought by ARTE television to be aired in the coming months.
