PRODUCTION: Debut Tak Fajn in Postproduction

By Iulia Blaga

{mosimage}BRATISLAVA: Paul Janik makes his directing debut with the comedy Tak Fajn after appearing in films and on TV since the age of 4, and spending 16 years in NYC, some of them working for NBC.

The film, which will be completed on 3 July 2012, does not have an official English title yet. The Slovak title translates as Okay, Fine, but titles under consideration include So Cooland Far Out.

The director wanted so badly to make Tak Fajn that he financed it with help from his friends and his mother.

The film is now in the post-coloring / sound mixing stage. Janik (https://vimeo.com/pauljanik) also wrote the script and is the DOP. The cast includes Majo Labuda, Barbora Zilecka, Tomas Palonder, Marian Labuda and Zuzka Norisova. The film was shot in Croatia over a period of 60 days during summer 2011 and 5 days during spring 2012, as well as 10 days in Bratislava (Slovakia) during fall 2011 and spring 2012.

"I made this movie, because I wanted to show a new way, a really independent one. It was financed by me, by my friends and people who donated their time. This doesn't mean it's cheaply or unprofessionally made. Everybody who worked on this film is an industry veteran. We are just trying a different approach," the director told FNE. The film is produced by Brano Jancich and Peter Puskar through Slovakia Film (www.slovakia-film.dot-com.sk) and himself through frogMEDIAS in co-production with Peter Nevedal through FilmPark (www.filmpark.sk) and Brano Chlpik through FilmFrame (www.filmframe.sk).

Paul Janik could not tell FNE the exact budget, but he said that "production cost without actors/director/post is 60,000 Euro - everything covered with my credit cards!" No grants were used, however all the people working on the project supported it.

The film will premiere on 10 July and be released on 160 screens in Slovakia on 12 July. A Czech cinema release is scheduled for 9 August.

There is no sales agent attached to the project.
