PRODUCTION: The New Life of a Family Album in Production

By Dominika Uhríková

BRATISLAVA: Young Slovak director Adam Oľha (Martin-Lisbon) is in the final stage of production with his second feature documentary, The New Life of a Family Album. Based on a long-term observation and shot over the period of three years, the movie is a portrait of the author's own family.

"After my parents divorced, I found myself surrounded by seven women - my grandmother, my mother, and my five sisters," Oľha, who is a student in film directing at FAMU in Prague, told FNE. "My first idea was simply to make a documentary on how the absence of a man in a household influences the lives of women at different ages; gradually, though, the movie has turned into an instrument which has enabled me to reopen a dialogue with my father."

Co-produced by Slovakia's Artileria (www.artileria.sk), Czech Republic's Evolution Films (www.evolutionfilms.cz) and FAMU (www.famu.cz), the €80,000 film has received €28,750 from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund (www.avf.sk) as well as €16,600 from the Czech State Fund for the Support and Development of Czech Cinematography.

The shooting should be completed by the end of 2011, with the premiere tentatively set for May 2012.
