TBILISI: The Georgian National Film Center has distributed 135,402 EUR / 473,908 GEL for the production of six documentary films to be directed by Tornike Bziava, Givi (Beso) Odisharia, Khvicha Emiridze and Tinatin Emiridze, Alexander Koridze, Nikoloz Tsiklauri and Elene Mikaberidze. The winners were chosen from among 26 projects competing for the grants. The grants were announced on 22 May 2020.

TBILISI: The venerated Georgian film director Merab Kokochashvili is currently in production with his feature film Terzo Mondo. His 1967 film Great Green Valley / Didi Mcvane Veli (1967) is one of the most prominent films in the Georgian cinema, in which the content and form are uniquely matched.

TBILISI: The Georgian National Film Center responds to the COVID-19 crisis with the launch of online film screenings, with 27 films already signed on to be part of the initiative.

TBILISI: Georgian director Maradia Tsaava is currently in production with her first long documentary My Neighbour. The shooting for this Georgian/French coproduction started in August 2019.

TBILISI: The Georgian National Film Center distributed 250,000 EUR / 800,000 GEL for the production of two first feature films to be directed by Vakhtang Kotetishvili and Giorgi Chalauri.

TBILISI: Georgian director Tamta Gabrichidze is currently in preproduction with her first long documentary Mugamati. The filming is planned for the summer of 2020. Gabrichidze’s short documentary The Trader / Sovdagari was awarded at Sundance and HoT Docs, and became the first Georgian documentary distributed by Netflix worldwide.

TBILISI: Georgian writer/director Tamaz (Tazo) Narimanidze is completing postproduction on his debut feature Winter Depression, which was supported by the Georgian National Film Center.

TBILISI: Georgian writer/director Giorgi Mukhadze is currently in preproduction with his debut feature When You Are 17. Shooting is scheduled for August 2020.

TBILISI: Acclaimed Georgian director and writer Zaza Khalvashi died at 62 on 4 February 2020. His latest film Rain on Two Sides is currently in postproduction.
