TBILISI: Levan Koguashvili’s Guria / გურია has been selected as Georgia’s candidate for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards in the Best International Feature Film category.

TBILISI: FNE spoke with Mamuka Bliadze, the director of the Georgian National Film Center (GNFC), about his goals and the challenges facing Georgian cinema.

TBILISI: Georgian director Levan Koguashvili's fourth feature film, Guria / გურია, has been selected for the Venice Spotlight section of the 2026 Venice International Film Festival (2 – 12 September 2026), where it will celebrate its world premiere. The film is one of eight titles selected for the programme dedicated to distinctive auteur works from around the world. The film is a coproduction between Georgia, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Norway, and Türkiye, with partners from Saudi Arabia.

MESTIA: The winners of the Mountain-Themed Film Competition and the Short Film Competition were announced at the 6th Mestia International Short and Mountain Film Festival, where Phurba Tshering Lama's Jaar won the Best Mountain Film Award, while Jon Glassberg's Girl Climber received the festival's Grand Prix. In the Short Film Competition, Georgian animated short Oh! Mother, Mother... by Khatuna Tatuashvili won the Best Film Award.

MESTIA: Khatuna Tatuashvili’s short animated film Oh! Mother, Mother…/ ოჰ! დედა, დედა.. is the only Georgian animated film selected for the 2026 Mestia International Short and Mountain Film Festival, which is taking place in Mestia from 29 July to 2 August 2026. This year’s edition marks the first time the festival has accepted animated films into its programme.

USHGULI: The winners of the Pitching Forum and Work in Progress competitions were announced at the 6th edition of the Svaneti International Film Festival DALI, where Murad Allahverdi’s Kura won the Creative Georgia Award for Best International Project, while Ilia Ebitashvili and Irina Petrikei’s Silent Law received the 1TV Award for Best Georgian Project.
