ZAGREB: Croatian director Dražen Žarković (My Grandpa Is an Alien) is currently shooting Salsa / Šalša, a comedy with horror elements supported by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC) and HRT.

Set in the middle of a hot summer in Croatia, the script penned by Zoran Lazić, Ivan Turković Krnjak and Maja Todorović follows Vatroslav, a student who works as a fast food delivery boy but goes tomato picking on the island of Mala Glava. Once a stronghold of the Yugoslav army, the island is today a location where a pro-life organisation plans to open a youth camp, according to a press release issued by HAVC.

The main cast includes Momčilo Otašević, Ivana Gulin, Milica Janevski, Ljubiša Savanović and Snježana Sinovčić Šiškov.

The film is produced by Zagreb-based Maxima Film in coproduction with Banja Luka-based Nomad Film. The project received a production grant of almost 540,000 EUR from the Croatian Audiovisual Centre in 2019.

The shooting is taking place on the island of Šolta and in Zagreb from 17 May – 15 June 2023.
