FNE at Baltic Event: Estonian/Latvian/Lithuanian Pretenders in Production

By

TALLINN: Pretenders, a coproduction between Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and the feature debut from Estonian director Vallo Toomla explores the generation of millennials in their 30's. The Eurimages supported project was presented at Baltic Event works in progress hosted by POFF Black Nights Film Festival in Tallin.

The Pretenders is a psychological drama about the illusion of stability and maturity felt by the generation of European 30-somethings. A couple, Anna and Juhan, face a difficult decision and decide to get away to a wonderful beach house of their well-off friends. When a pair of strangers turns up at their door step, they pretend to be the wealthy owners of the house. The cast includes Mirtel Pohla, Meelis Rämmeld, Mari Abel and Priit Võigemas

The film is a co-production between Amrion Ltd (Estonia), Studio Uljana Kim (Lithuania) and Locomotive Productions (Latvia).

"The budget is 750 000 EUR and we have 100% of financing in place. We are currently editing with a few shoot days left and we are looking for a sales agent and festivals" producer Riina Sildos of Amrion Ltd told FNE.

The film received financial support from Cultural Endowment of Estonia, Eurimages and the Lithuanian Film Center. Development was supported by Creative Europe and the Estonian Film Institute.

The premeire is planned for late spring of 2016.
