Johnny Depp to Shoot Sophomore Directorial Project in Budapest

BUDAPEST: Johnny Depp’s Amedeo Modigliani biopic Modi starring Riccardo Scamarcio, Pierre Niney and Al Pacino, will start shooting in Budapest in the autumn of 2023. Proton Cinema will handle the shooting in Hungary.

The project, which has recently participated in the Cannes’ Marché du Film, is produced by Barry Navidi through Harry Navidi Productions and Depp through the London-based IN.2.Films. Companies Infinitum Nihil, Salome Productions and The Veterans are also involved, according to Budapest Reporter.

The script written by Polish-born scriptwriter Jerzy Kromolowski together with Mary Kromolowski follows Modigliani during 48 hours in 1916 in Paris.

Nicola Pecorini is lensing. The film will be shot in Budapest and also in Paris, Depp said in Cannes.

At the beginning of May 2023 Depp was spotted in Budapest and the local media speculated that his presence might have been due to a promotional video for the concert he would give in Hungary’s capital in July 2023.
