Production: Gravedigger in postproduction

By Gyorgy Karpati

A feature film adaptation of Rilke's Gravedigger by Hungarian cinematographer-director Sandor Kardos is in postproduction, producer Andras Muhi told FNE

The adaptation of Rilke's work was shot on 35mm, and Kardos used a photo-finish camera employing a technique similar to that of the director's prize-winning short film Slitfilm. The shooting lasted three weeks in fall of 2008.

The film is produced by Inforg Studio (www.inforgstudio.hu ) with producer Andras Muhi. The estimated budget of the movie is €120,000 including €85,700 from the Motion Picture Public Foundation of Hungary (www.mmka.hu). The special demands of the film led to the casting of both amateur and professional actors, Muhi said.

The theatrical release date is to be determined. The movie will be screened at the Hungarian Film Week in January, 2010.
