Malta’s aggressive push to bring international film production to the island nation is paying off by attracting tourists there as well.

According to the Malta Tourism Authority, 3.5 percent of tourists said they chose to visit Malta because of the image presented in films.

As a result, key film and tourism industry figures met for a symposium on how to capitalize on the impact of the film industry. Participants included Malta Film Commissioner (www.mfc.com.mt) Peter Busuttil and Popeye Village film set manager Antoine Cauchi, as well as the director of the Ministry for Tourism Julian Zarb.
