By Katarzyna Grynienko

KRAKOW: Czech film director Marek Najbrt is shooting his new project entitled Polish Film. The shoot will continue in Krakow through September 2011. The premiere is planned for 2012 at the Kralovy Vary IFF.

Polish Film is a comedy following the lives of four actor friends who meet up after many years and decided to make a film. The realization of the project will give each of them a catharsic moment and change their lives forever.

After Najbrt won the 3rd OFF PLUS CAMERA International Festival Of Independent Cinema (www.offpluscamera.com) in 2010 with his film Protektor, his new project attracted a lot of interest from the Polish film industry. The production of his new film was made possible thanks to 2 million PLN (EUR 480,000) of monetary prizes won at the OFF PLUS CAMERA Festival and 1 million PLN co-financing from the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl).

"One of the priorities of the OFF PLUS CAMERA festival is promoting and supporting the filmmakers who are just beginning their careers. This is the goal of the Main Competition "Making Way" and the high amount of the award: 100 000 USD is an amount that can significantly help each starting filmmaker to realize any project," said Szymon Miszczak, the director of OFF PLUS CAMERA. The financing from the Polish Film Institute was given to the Czech filmmaker under the condition that his new project would be realized in Poland or with Polish involvement.

The film's budget is 5.2 million PLN (EUR 1.2 million). The Polish co-producer is Off Production. The project also received 1 million PLN in financing from Leszek Czarnecki, the owner of Noble Bank. The Czech filmmaker received significant support from the Krakow Film Commission (www.film-commission.pl), facilitating the shoot in the region.

The cast of the film includes popular Czech actors of the new wave Pavel Liška, Tomaš Matonoha, Josef Polašek, Marek Daniel and Jan Budař. The Polish cast includes Katarzyna Zawadzka, who was awarded for the Best Debut at this year's PFF in Gdynia, as well as Krzysztof Czeczot and Marcin Kobierski.
