CANNES: Polish director Roman Polanski received a Best Director prize from his homeland in the form of the Polish Eagle, presented to him in Cannes by Dariusz Jablonski, President of the Polish Film Academy, and Polanski’s friend and coproducer Andrzej Serdiukow.

Polanski received the award for his film Carnage at the 15th edition of the Polish Eagles, the national film awards. He was unable to be at the ceremony in Warsaw because of work on his new film Venus in Fur which was in competition at the Cannes IFF, but had thanked the Academy via satellite transmission. In accepting the award in person, Polanski said, "I am delighted with the prize awarded to me by my colleagues, and I am glad that the Eagle has beautiful strong wings."

Polanski previously won the Eagle for Best Director and Best Film for The Pianist and was recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003.
