FNE at Cannes 2023: Polish/French Documentary In the Rearview Selected for ACID 2023 in Cannes

    WARSAW: The Polish/French documentary In the Rearview by Maciek Hamela, which was shot in Ukraine, is among the nine titles selected for the 31st edition of the ACID Programme, taking place within the Cannes Film Festival from 17 to 26 May 2023.

    In the Rearview is a multivoiced narrative about the experience of war as it unfolds. Its protagonists are Ukrainian civilians from different regions, united by the life-threatening situation and desperately in need of evacuation as their country reacts to invasion. Having decided abruptly to evacuate over the borders, they are forced to rely on external helpers. The director is a volunteer in the evacuation efforts and has driven aid vehicles to Kyiv, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Slavyansk, Soledar since the war erupted, often into combat zones and to offer first aid in remote villages. 

    The 1h 25 minute- film is produced by Polish Affinity Cine and Impakt Film, in coproduction with the French outfit SaNoSi Productions. It was supported by the Polish Film Institute.

    The 76th Cannes Film Festival will be held 16 – 27 May 2023.
