FESTIVALS: ESTE FILM Festival Launches International Academy & Networking for Festival Managers

    SIBIU: The 7th edition of the ESTE FILM Festival, which was held in Sibiu, Romania 10 -14 May 2023, launched the first edition of LINE-UP: International Academy & Networking for Festival Managers, an annual meeting for European managers of film and theatre festivals, academic professors and students.

    The theme of the first edition of LINE-UP was How to Start a Festival: Theoretical Approach and Practical Experiences. The speakers included Corina Șuteu (founder of the Making Waves Romanian Film Festival in New York and former minister of Culture), Oana Giurgiu (executive director of the Transilvania IFF), Miroslav Mogorović (programme director of the Palić European FF), Nikolaj Nikitin (head of International Screen Institute and SOFA, artistic director of the Palic European FF), Dana Dimitriu (director of the Bucharest IFF) and Alina Țurcanu (president of the Theater Center of Moldova), among others.

    LINE-UP is organised by the Este Film Association in collaboration with the Audience Development Institute (Serbia) and Astethic Media (Republic of Moldova).

    The 7th edition of ESTE FILM Festival screened its usual menu of European and Romanian films, as well as LUX Audience Award nominated films, children films and Romanian titles running in the festival’s short films competition. The award for best short Romanian film went to Me and My Sister / Eu și sora mea by Theodor Ioniță.

    ESTE FILM Festival is one of the few Romanian festivals hosting a competition for domestic short films. This year, the festival also had a focus on Norwegian cinema.

    ESTE FILM Festival is organised by Este Film Association, co-financed by Administrația Fondului Cultural Național (AFCN), and supported by the LUX Audience Award, European Parliament, Royal Norwegian Embassy, Norwegian Film Institute, Nordic Film Festival, County School Inspectorate Sibiu and Autonom.
