Short film Palme d'Or winner Marian Crişan (Megatron, 2008) is in production with his feature debut, Morgen, the story of a Romanian who goes fishing and comes home with a Kurd, at the Romanian-Hungarian border.
The story is inspired by an article Crişan read in a local newspaper about immigrants discovered in a sewer. His script receieved first prize at the first feature contest organized by the National Centre for Cinema (www.cncinema.abt.ro) in December 2008, receiving a grant of €270,000 for the €750,000 budget film.
Cristian Mungiu, a member of the committee, wrote then that Morgen "has a chance to premiere in a big festival, to be selected in many others and to receive prizes."
The film is a Romanian-French-Hungarian coproduction between Anca Puiu and Mandragora Movies (www.mandragora.ro) together with Marianne Slot and Slot Machine (www.slotmachine.fr), and Ivan Angelusz & Peter Reich and Katapult Film (www.katapultfilm.hu).
Shooting started on location, in Crişan's hometown of Salonta, on September 17, and will wrap in 6 weeks of film in both Romania and Hungary. The cast includes the Turkish actor Yalcin Yilmaz.
The premiere is planned for autumn 2010. Mandragora Movies will distribute the film in Romania. There is no international sales agent attached..
