FNE at KVIFF 2013: Trio of Slovak Premieres at Karlovy Vary

    Three Slovak coproductions will have their world premieres in competition at the 48th Karlovy Vary IFF, running 28 June – 6 July 2013.

    Jan Hrebejk’s Czech/Slovak coproduction Honeymoon (Fog and Desire FilmsTrigon Production) premieres in the main international competition. The East of the West competition will open with the premiere of Juraj Lehotsky’s Slovak/Czech coproduction Miracle (Arteleria). The section also includes the premier of and the Slovak/Czech documentary Velvet Terrorists by Ivan Ostrochovsky, Pavol Pekarcik, and Peter Kerekes.

    At least nine Slovak films are screening at Karlovy Vary, including Exhibits or Stories from the Castle (Formats Pro Media) by Pavol Korec, which will have its international premiere in the Documentary Film Competition. 

    Marking the 50th anniversary of the Slovak Film Institute, a digitally restored screening of the 1965 film Before Night is Over will honor the 80th anniversary of the birth of Slovak screenwriter Tibor Vichta. A five member delegation from the Slovak Film Institute will attend the festival: General Director Peter Dubecky, Alexandra Strelkova, Viera Duricova, Katerina Tomkova, and Miroslav Ulman.
