BRATISLAVA: Mariana Cengel Solcanska’s fourth feature film Kidnapping / Unos is on target to hit the 1.m EUR mark by the end of the Easter week. The film reached 1.465 m EUR at the end of its sixth weekend in release, placing it in fourth place at the Slovak box office.

It follows on the heels of the hit Slovak/Czech romantic comedy All or Nothing (produced by NUNEZ NFE and coproduced by MOJO Film and Evita Film Production, with support from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund and the Czech Cinematography Fund) directed by Marta Ferencova, which is at 1.822 m EUR after 13 weeks in distribution. The films look likely to top the charts for the year, especially compared with 2016 returns, which saw only one film (the US kids movie Finding Dory) top 1 m EUR. The fact that both hits are Slovak films could be a record-breaker for the domestic industry.

Kidnapping / Unos, which Cengel Solcanska also wrote, is a drama about the kidnapping of the son of the Slovak President. The film set in 1993, during the first days of the newly independent Slovak Republic marked by mafia activity. It was produced by JMB Film &TV Productions and coproduced by RTVS and Studio 727, and released by Continental Film.
