PRODUCTION: The Corpse Must Die Delays Premiere

By Dominika Uhríková

BRATISLAVA: The Corpse Must Die, screenwriter Jozef Paštéka's directorial debut,is set to hit Slovak cinemas after its September premiere. Initially, the opening night was scheduled for 31 March 2011, but had to be cancelled due to lack of funding for distribution, as well as problems with the audio.

The €1,015,900 comedy about what a man will do for love is co-produced by Trigon Production (www.trigon-production.sk), W.I.P. Production, Slovak TV (www.stv.sk) and Czech TV (www.ceskatelevize.cz) and was part-funded by the Slovak Ministry of Culture (www.culture.gov.sk).

"The comedy genre has been completely absent from Slovak film production, which is no doubt because here it is often viewed as inferior to drama," Paštéka (screenplay for The Fountain for Suzanne 2) told FNE. "As a result, there are no comedy directors, so I was literally forced to direct my screenplay myself."

Principal photography for the film was shot entirely in Bratislava and its surroundings in 28 days. The cast includes Peter Marcin, Veronika Žilková, Miro Noga, Zuzana Mauréry and Dorota Nvotová. The score was composed by noted Slovak musician Vašo Patejdl.
