ZLIN: Czech TV and film production company Bionaut showcased its upcoming feature animation and TV series at the Works In Progress at the 57th International Film Festival for Children and Youth in Zlin running through 3 June 2017.

Bionaut is rolling out two new projects for children: the feature film Rosa & Dara And Their Great Summer Adventure and the animated TV series Hungry Bear Tales.

Rosa & Dara and Their Great Summer Adventure follows the exploits of seven-year-old twins Rosa and Dara along with their rascally dog Laiko, the twins’ amazing grandma –an inventor – and their grandpa, who can fix anything.

"The feature film is based on a very successful children's TV series that came from the idea of Martin Duda, which we produced for Czech Television, that has been a great success and was sold to broadcasters internationally to Slovakia, Scandinavia, Poland, the Middle East, China," producer Vratislav Šlajer told FNE. "It is a multiplatform project. We've created 26 episodes of the TV show, 5 special 2-minute episodes for the web and a series of documentaries focused on science with the characters of our show. We have also created a very popular online platform and a Youtube channel for the show. The feature film and bringing it to the big screen is the next step," he adds.

The feature film is currently in the pre-production stage with the premiere planned for spring of 2021. "The planned budget is 1 m EUR, as we do have a lot of the conceptual and graphic work done for the TV series" said Šlajer. " We are currently looking for coproduction partners and sales agents".

The second project presented by Bionaut in Zlin is a 26-episode animated series Hungry Bear Tales written and directed by Alexandra Hetmerová and Kateřina Karhánková, and inspired by the books by Zbyněk Černík.

The series follows a pair of bears who are constantly hungry. The main goal they share is to stuff their tummies to the brim and so most of their everyday adventures revolve around ways to find something really good to eat.

"The series is currently in the pre-production stage but it has been presented internationally and it is sparking a lot of interest. In 2016 it won the Best Project Award at the Cinekid IFF and it will be presented at the 2017 Cartoon Forum," Šlajer told FNE.

The series already has a French distributor Dandelo with premiere TV release planned for 2019. The show is planned for 26 x 7 minute episodes, each with a budget of 40 000 EUR.
