FNE at Connecting Cottbus 2014: Ablabuda Film to Bow with The Button

By

COTTBUS: Georgian production company Ablabuda Film, which was launched in 2013, is in preparation with its first film The Button (working title) directed by Alexander Kviria to be shot in 2015.

“This is one of the first projects that came to us when we started our new company," producer Ketie Danelia said. The company has another three films in development, including The Clown to be directed by US poet/writer/actor/director Anthony Lucero and shot in 2015.

The Button is a comedic drama about a failed 50-year-old theatre director caught up in a spiral of absurd events taking place in the last few days leading up to the opening of a new production. The filmmakers pitching it at Connecting Cottbus described it as a reflection of current social problems.

The budget is 700,000 EUR with 150,000 EUR in-kind funding already in place through the Georgian film rental company Millimeter Film. The filmmakers have applied to the Georgian National Film Center for funding and are expecting to receive some 250,000 EUR. The filmmakers were in Cottbus looking for partners from Europe, with some discussion of a possible Polish coproduction partnership.

Preproduction will take place in early 2015, with a 36-day shooting schedule in place for fall 2015.
