Malta Celebrates 90 Years of Film

By

VALLETTA: To commemorate Malta’s achievements in the film industry over 90 years, the Malta Film Commission will organise a concert on 25 and 26 September 2015. Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will perform some of the greatest soundtracks from movies shot in Malta.

Titles such as Midnight Express, Troy, Cutthroat Island, Game of Thrones, Count of Monte Cristo and Gladiator will be performed at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta. Brian Schembri will conduct.

In March 1925, British producer and director H. Bruce Woolfe came to shoot scenes for the first ever feature film shot in Malta called Sons of the Sea. 90 years on, the country’s film industry has gone from strength to strength, attracting large scale productions such as Midnight Express, Gladiator, Troy, World War Z, By The Sea and 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.
