WARSAW: Krakow Film Festival’s Sliver Dragon winners have been added to the list of qualifying awards for the Academy Awards nominations in the short film category.

Winners of Krakow Film Festival (www.kff.com.pl) Golden Dragon prize have been automatically entitled to apply for Academy Award nomination in the short film category for several years already. The Golden Dragon is the main award of the International Short Film Competition in Krakow for documentary, and animated and feature films up to 30 minutes in length. From 2013, winners of the Silver Dragon for the best animation and the Silver Dragon for the best short feature will be also able to apply for Academy Awards.

"We are very glad about this distinction," says Barbara Orlicz – Szczypula, Krakow Film Festival's Director of the Programme Office. “It is a proof of the appreciation of our attempts to constantly improve the standard of our festival. It is also wonderful news for the participants of the competition - now the Silver Dragons can also be a passport to a world-wide career."

Krakow Film Festival has been the international launch pad for many famous names in international film including Roman Polanski, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Andrea Arnold and Sergei Loznitsa.
